I have 28 years of experience, and specialize in the field of policing and law enforcement with specific knowledge in the areas of excessive force, police misconduct and police deviance. I have published on such topics as police use of force, police education and arrest practices. I have testified on police misconduct. Having served as a Military Police officer in the mid 1980’s, I was exposed to the many issues faced by police officers. This experience translated to an interest in policing from both a practitioner and academic perspective, particularly with respect to police use of force issues. Over the past decade, I have worked with various local and state law enforcement agencies, and have directed several federally funded research studies, served as a consultant on a multitude of projects, and retained as an expert witness and invited speaker.
