I have 24 years of experience, and specialize in the field of explosives hazards with specific knowledge in the areas of process hazards, material characterization and incident investigations. I have published on such topics as test techniques for characterizing explosives, electrostatic hazards to propellants and propellant processing and investigations for determining the fundamental cause of fatal incidents involving rocket motors. As a young physicist I had the opportunity to work as a hazards analyst and test supervisor for a manufacturer of explosives that produced everything from pistol primers to solid rocket boosters. I have continued to consult explosives manufacturers, communities and others, providing safety audits, explosive testing and characterizations, system safety support, incident investigation support, hazards analysis and other related services. I was instrumental in drafting and promoting changes that were adopted in the Uniform Fire Code to update the terminology and regulations for explosives.
