I have 45 years of experience, and specialize in the field of microbiology and food safety with specific knowledge in the areas of foodborne pathogens, seafood toxins and surveillance of foodborne disease. I have published on such topics as food worker hygiene, the epidemiology of disease, costs caused by pathogens and seafood toxins and risk assessment of foodborne disease. I have testified 22 times on topics such as E. coli in ground beef, salmonella in catered food and ciguatera poisoning from tropical fish in a restaurant. My career has spanned about 45 years working in three settings: government, academia and consulting. I have traveled widely to many countries including China and the Middle East, and I have given many hundreds of talks at national and international scientific meetings.
