I have 25 years of experience, and specialize in the field of modern Chinese studies with specific knowledge in the areas of protest movements, urban change and American ideas about China. I have published on such topics as the Tiananmen protests, the Chinese Internet and how globalization is transforming China. Despite being trained as an academic historian, I tend to focus on contemporary issues these days and do things like write for Time and Newsweek, speak at literary festivals, blog and do other things that a lot of scholars don’t do.
